• A super-telephoto zoom lens, featuring the world's first 800mm focal length. It covers a wide range of focal lengths from 200mm at the wide end to 800mm at the telephoto end with a single lens. When mounted on an APS-C size camera, the focal length is further extended by 1.6 times, expanding the telephoto range.
• With a telephoto focal length of 800mm, you can bring distant subjects such as wild birds, wildlife, airplanes, motorsports, and events, which are difficult to approach, close to fill the frame, enabling powerful super-telephoto photography.
• Extenders "Extender RF1.4x" and "Extender RF2x" (sold separately) can be used throughout the zoom range. This extends the focal length by 1.4x/2x, achieving super-telephoto photography equivalent to a maximum focal length of 1120mm/1600mm.
• Achieves a minimum focusing distance of 0.8m and a maximum magnification of 0.25x at a focal length of 200mm. At a focal length of 800mm, it achieves a minimum focusing distance of 3.3m and a maximum magnification of 0.2x, allowing for comfortable focusing on nearby subjects.
• Despite being a super-telephoto zoom lens, it achieves a compact and lightweight design with an overall length of approximately 314.1mm and a weight of approximately 2,050g. High mobility enables comfortable handheld shooting.
• A new optical design of 17 elements in 11 groups, effectively incorporating three UD lenses, corrects chromatic aberration across the entire zoom range, resulting in sharp depiction with minimal color fringing.
• Combined with EOS R series cameras, which have excellent high-sensitivity performance, clear images with low noise can be achieved even in shooting environments where sufficient light is not available.
• The in-lens optical image stabilization mechanism provides an image stabilization effect of 5.5 stops.
• Canon's proprietary ultrasonic motor "Nano USM" enables high-speed, high-precision AF for still photography. Smooth AF also allows for comfortable shooting during video recording.
• Combined with Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which is equipped on all EOS R series cameras, AF shooting is possible even when using extenders.
• Supports "Focus Breathing Correction," which electronically corrects angle of view fluctuations caused by focus operations during video recording.
• Designed for field shooting, white paint is used to suppress the temperature rise of the lens due to solar heat.
• The balance between the amount of zoom ring movement and the torque weight is optimized for smooth zoom operation. The tripod ring is positioned to minimize changes in the center of gravity balance even when the overall length changes.
• The Focus/Control Ring allows users to assign arbitrary functions. The torque of the zoom ring can be adjusted with the adjustment ring, realizing comfortable operability.
• The "Lens Function Button" is placed in an easy-to-operate position for the left thumb. Functions assigned arbitrarily, such as AF or exposure, can be switched while holding the camera.
• Dust and moisture resistant construction is adopted for the mount, switch, buttons, focus/control ring, zoom ring, and adjustment ring.
