• Leveraging the Z mount's large diameter and short flange back, a large-diameter aspherical lens is adopted for the rear element and placed close to the sensor. Furthermore, by employing three ED lenses, extremely high optical performance is achieved while inheriting the specifications of Nikon's traditional medium-telephoto micro lens.
• Adopts the "Multi-Focus System" AF drive system, which precisely controls the position of multiple focus groups in micron units through the coordinated operation of multiple AF drive units, delivering excellent resolution with minimal aberrations even for subjects at close distances, where aberrations are generally prone to occur.
• Enables shooting at lower sensitivities even in dark scenes, resulting in high image quality with even less noise. It allows for faster shutter speeds even in dim indoor scenes, and in conjunction with the VR mechanism, not only effectively compensates for camera shake but also suppresses subject blur.
• Employs both Nikon's proprietary anti-reflective coating technologies, "Nano Crystal Coat" and "ARNEO Coat." These effectively reduce ghosting and flare caused by any incident light. Even when a strong light source is included in the frame for dramatic expression, clear images with excellent clarity can be obtained.
• Adopts a newly developed small-diameter, high-torque STM (stepping motor). Achieves high-speed, high-precision AF while prioritizing quietness.
• When shooting at close distances, such as in macro photography, the AF drive range can be limited to between 0.29m and 0.5m from the minimum shooting distance. This makes it easier to achieve focus during macro photography.
• Adopts a newly developed AF algorithm optimized for the characteristics of a micro lens, where the effective aperture (range of usable apertures) changes with shooting distance. It delivers high AF accuracy even when the effective aperture changes.
• Features a new drive mechanism that works in conjunction with NIKKOR Z lens's high design standards and the newly developed small-diameter, high-torque STM (stepping motor). Even in MF, the focus throw can be finely adjusted with a high operational feel, allowing for sharp focus at the desired point, even in macro photography where fine adjustments of focus position are desired.
• Thoroughly suppresses chromatic aberration, significantly improves AF accuracy, and incorporates a vibration reduction (VR) mechanism with a 4.5-stop compensation effect. This allows for shooting without worrying about camera shake, even in macro photography or low-light scenes where camera shake is particularly noticeable.
• Collaborates with the in-body image stabilization mechanism of Z series cameras to compensate for 5 axes of shake: Yaw, Pitch, vertical and horizontal shake which become more pronounced at higher magnifications, and Roll, which is particularly noticeable during video recording.
• Achieves large, beautiful bokeh and high resolution in the focal plane, not limited to macro range. Leveraging the 105mm medium-telephoto focal length, it enables impressive expressions with striking contrast between bokeh and resolution in landscapes and portraits.
• Features high dust and moisture resistance, with sealing applied to various parts including the movable sections of the lens barrel and a rubber ring on the lens mount.
• Adopts STM (stepping motor) for the AF and aperture mechanisms, realizing quiet operation. The clickless control ring is designed with video recording operation noise in mind, allowing for shooting without worrying about lens or aperture drive sounds, or ring operation sounds being picked up in videos.
• Equipped with a "Control Ring," common to NIKKOR Z lenses, separate from the focus ring, which can be assigned to control aperture (power aperture), ISO sensitivity, or exposure compensation.
