• Covers a wide focal length range from 100mm at the wide end to 500mm at the telephoto end with a single lens.
• Attaching the "Extender RF2×" (scheduled for release in late July 2020) makes it possible to achieve an equivalent focal length of 600mm to 1000mm.
• Optical design of 20 elements in 14 groups, including one Super UD lens and six UD lenses, suppresses color fringing from the center to the periphery of the image. It reduces various aberrations that cause image quality degradation, achieving high image quality across the entire zoom range.
• Adoption of the special coating "ASC (Air Sphere Coating)" provides anti-reflection effect for light incident at an angle close to perpendicular to the lens surface. It reduces phenomena such as flare and ghosting.
• Employs electronic floating focus control, which individually drives and controls two lens groups – the focus lens group and the floating lens group – with two "Nano USM" ultrasonic motors. This improves image quality during close-up shooting. It achieves high-speed AF during still photography and smooth AF during video recording.
• Achieves 6.0 stops of image stabilization during still photography when attached to the "EOS R5", and 5.0 stops of image stabilization during still photography when attached to the "EOS R". It also provides a high level of image stabilization effect during video recording.
• Equipped with three "IS Modes" that can be selected according to the subject's movement. These include "IS Mode 1" suitable for stationary subjects, "IS Mode 2" suitable for panning shots of subjects like motorsports and trains, and "IS Mode 3" suitable for subjects with irregular movements such as sports.
• Features a dust- and moisture-resistant construction on the mount, control ring, and focus ring. Additionally, a fluorine coating that repels oil and water droplets is applied to the front-most lens element.
• Uses a heat-shielding paint that increases the reflectivity of infrared rays contained in sunlight. This suppresses the temperature rise of the lens even during long shooting sessions under the blazing sun, such as during outdoor sports.
