• When shooting distant subjects, it provides clear, sharp, and highly resolved depictions. When shooting close-up with the aperture wide open, the in-focus plane is sharp, while the out-of-focus areas blur softly and smoothly, creating a depiction that makes the subject appear to float.
• The exterior uses high-grade machined aluminum for the lens barrel, hood, and cap, with meticulous attention paid to the texture of the body.
• The optical system uses four ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements and one Super ED glass element, which provide high chromatic aberration reduction effects, minimizing color fringing not only in the in-focus plane but also in the bokeh.
• By using a large-diameter concave meniscus lens, a biconvex glass-molded aspherical lens, and high-refractive index glass for the first element, it achieves a compact size despite being an ultra-wide-angle lens, realizing sharp image performance without flow at the periphery.
• Employs the high-performance multi-coating "HD Coating," which suppresses average reflectance in the visible light spectrum to approximately 50% or less compared to conventional coatings. This effectively suppresses the occurrence of ghosting and flare under harsh lighting conditions such as backlight.
• Features an electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism. When used with compatible digital SLR cameras, smooth aperture control is possible.
• Incorporates a weather-sealed construction to prevent water droplets from entering the lens.
